Police pulled a man’s body from the Penobscot River in Bangor Friday night, downstream from where authorities have been searching since late February for a missing Maine Maritime Academy student from Westbrook.
The body will be sent to the state medical examiner’s office Saturday for identification, said Lt. Kevin Adam of the Maine Warden Service.
The body was discovered around 6:15 p.m. near the Sea Dog Brewing Co. in Bangor and pulled from the river by Bangor police and fire crews, Adam said.
Although Adam would not speculate whether the body was that of David Breunig, 21, the missing student, he said the warden service was called in because it has been leading the search for the Maine Maritime Academy junior. Breunig was last seen Feb. 27 in Orono after leaving a party to head into downtown Orono.
Orono is about 5 miles north of Bangor. The site where the body was found is downstream on the Penobscot.
