Well, hallelujah! Score another victory against the “undeserving poor,” as Maine Republicans and Democrats join forces to end the critical problem of welfare recipients using their benefits to buy things that the deserving classes have determined are a bad idea (“Maine lawmakers approve welfare reform, drug penalty bills as session draws to a close,” April 15).
How disappointing to see Democrats join this absurd exercise under the banner of so-called “welfare reform.” As is usually the case, there is nothing about this law that encompasses either welfare (taking care of those in need) or reform (improving that care).
