Fully funding Maine Clean Elections should be a priority for our state government. It is important that my voice and the voices of all Mainers be heard by our legislators, not the voice of special interest groups. Why is their money louder than our voices?
Last November, Mainers again strongly supported funding Clean Elections. The time is now for our legislators to listen to the voters and fully fund Clean Elections.
Maine Citizens for Clean Elections is demanding the return of $1.7 million raided in 2015 to ensure that Clean Elections is fully funded in the 2016 and 2018 election cycles. It is important to put that money to work for the Maine people, so that our democracy will be much stronger.
Many of our legislators – more than 70 percent, I believe – have already committed to running as Clean Elections candidates. I thank them for that.
For those not yet running as clean candidates, I urge them to do so. Let’s make sure all the money is in the Clean Election fund for them.
