AUGUSTA — A Waterville man who stopped to fix his car on the side of North Belfast Avenue was injured Monday morning after it fell onto him.

Carroll Cummings, 69, was taken by Augusta Rescue to MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta, police said. Details on his condition were not immediately available from police.

Cummings was driving a 2008 Nissan sedan west on North Belfast Avenue when he stopped on the side of the road, on a hill roughly a quarter-mile east of Bolton Hill Road, to fix something under his car, according to Sgt. Christian Behr. He jacked the car up and was under it when the jack flipped over and the car landed on top of him, Behr said. Cummings had another person with him.

The car was no longer on Cummings when public safety crews arrived, but he was still on the ground, Behr said. The incident was reported at approximately 9:15 a.m.
