As usual, M.D. Harmon tells only half the story in his April Fool’s rant about the Affordable Care Act.

His rambling is an object lesson in how someone on a pulpit can sound so informed and persuasive. Sure, the ACA isn’t a panacea; a much better option would have been a single-payer system, which would have eliminated the greed and waste of the private insurance hucksters.

But what the ACA has accomplished and what the hucksters fought tooth and nail was the far wider availability of insurance coverage: no restrictions, no pre-existing conditions. Millions of folks got access to health care who were previously denied and – surprise! – they had lots of medical issues.

The large expenses of the past year or two mean that people are seeing doctors, getting long-delayed diagnoses and procedures. That is a good outcome. That is what a great country does: offer health to all instead of only those who can afford it.

Mr. Harmon owes his readers the whole story instead of his usual jaundiced slant.
