Cheverus senior Emily Duff, joined by her parents, Tim and Jennifer, signs her National Letter of Intent Thursday to attend and play lacrosse at Rockhurst University in Kansas City.
“I wasn’t sure if I wanted to play lacrosse in college, then the opportunity presented itself and I realized it was something I really wanted to do, so I took it,” said Duff, who was lauded before the signing by athletic director Gary Hoyt for her attitude, selflessness and commitment to Cheverus. “Rockhurst is exactly what I was looking for. The team’s really close. The coaches are great. It’s not just about lacrosse, it’s about building the whole person.”
Duff injured both her knees in  high school and overcame those obstacles. She said that her time with the Stags prepared her for the next level.
“Being at Cheverus has made me a better player,” said Duff. “I played with great players like Alex Logan, Elyse Caiazzo, Meredith Willard. They were my mentors.”
Cheverus coach Jennifer Wescott feels that Duff will be successful in college.
“No one is more deserving than Emily,” Wescott said. “You look up team player in the dictionary and it’s Emily. She got to practice early and stayed late to help teammates work on their shot. Rockhurst will be a great fit. She has a chance to help their program. She has a great work ethic and has great stick skills.”
