A Readfield man was taken to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston for treatment of a possible broken leg after a motorcycle he was driving clipped a car on U.S. Route 202 in Manchester, throwing him from the motorcycle, according to Kennebec County Sheriff Ryan Reardon.

The accident took place just before 2 p.m. Thursday, when two cars driving east on U.S. Route 202 came to a stop for a school bus headed in the opposite direction, Reardon said. The bus had stopped near the Copies Etc. shop to drop off children, and its stop signals were flashing.

The second of the two stopped cars was a 2006 Subaru Outback driven by Monique Conners, 34, of Oakland.

Donald McLeod, 64, of Readfield, was driving a motorcycle in the same direction as Conners and clipped the rear end of her car, Reardon said. He was thrown from the motorcycle and suffered what police believe is a broken leg.

Reardon said “speed and inattention” were factors in McLeod’s accident. Police did not observe a helmet at the accident scene, Reardon said.

Both McLeod’s motorcycle and Conners’ car were damaged, but Reardon did not know to what extent. Conners was not injured.

Members of the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office, the Manchester Fire Department and Winthrop Ambulance Service went to the scene. Traffic headed in both directions was stopped for a short time as they worked at the accident scene, Reardon said.
