A recent Biddeford City Council meeting was at least a chance to correct a huge wrong and not one councilor had the guts to do that.

Despite numerous letters of accomplishments, and being highly respected for over 28-plus years of service, Vicky Edgerly, now past Health and Welfare director, was physically escorted out of her office and was not allowed to return. She was given the “reason” as “we are making some changes.” No criminal charges, no charges of any type, just “we are making some changes.”

A number of individuals at this meeting got up in support of the work Vicky has done, including past councilors, and relayed what a disservice this was to a person with impeccable credentials and service.

When public speaking was done and it was the City Council’s turn to speak, the president gave his speech how great this reorganization plan was. Then one councilor did say “this was definitely handled wrong.” Not one councilor, nor the mayor, had the guts to make a public apology for how this entire incident went down.

I sincerely hope at our next election, people of Biddeford will remember how this highly respected individual was treated, which also relates how they feel about the entire workforce of city employees and how they can and are being treated.

Benefits city workers have worked hard and long for have now been stripped thanks to our new “slash and burn” city manager with full support of the City Council and mayor.

Your taxes will be going up – guaranteed, just wait and see – services going down, and now it will not be “there goes the neighborhood,” but “there goes the entire town.”

Before the city manager destroys our town, it might be suggested you speak with your city councilor and also while you’re at it, definitely get a copy of his reorganization plan. It won’t take you three minutes to read and analyze, but you will definitely go away with lots of questions.
