Oak Hill roadwork begins

The town of Scarborough was expected to begin roadwork at the Oak Hill intersection this week, and the project should last through May 1.

The planned improvements include adding new crosswalks, sidewalks and pedestrian signals and lighting. In addition, the town will also be making improvements to the traffic signals at the busy four-way intersection.

Driver should be prepared for some delays and are asked to proceed slowly and safely through the work zone. Call the Public Works Department at 730-4400 with any questions or concerns.

Church sets ‘Rockin’ Easter’ event

The Rock Church in Scarborough will hold a “Rockin’ Easter” event, Saturday, March 26, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m., which is open to the public. Activities include an egg hunt, face painting, crafts, a photo booth and more.

Shuttle service will be provided from the Wentworth School parking lot. Although the event is free, pre-registration is requested at www.trcportland.com or by calling 883-7625.

School open house April 2

The Greater Portland Christian School in South Portland is holding an open house Saturday, April 2, from 9 a.m.-noon, for families interested in enrolling their children. Families can learn more about the school’s program for pre-school through 12th grade, tour the school, meet with teachers and administration, and get questions answered.

Those unable to attend can call 767-5123 to schedule a personal tour.

Lyric Theater fundraiser

Lyric Music Theater in South Portland will hold a fundraising event on Saturday, April 2. The event includes performances and a silent auction. The fundraiser also includes a twist with men singing songs written for women, and women singing songs written for men. The auction and reception begin at 6 p.m. Some of the auction items up for grabs include handcrafted rag rugs, artisanal chocolates, gift certificates to some of Portland’s best restaurants, tasting tours at some of Portland’s breweries and distilleries and tickets to theaters, music venues and sports teams.

The musical revue, directed by Joshua Chard and Bob Gauthier, will start at 7 p.m. Tickets are $35 and can be purchased online at www.lyricmusictheater.org or by calling the box office at 799-1421.

Author talk with Monica Woods

Nonesuch Books, at Mill Creek Shopping Center in South Portland, will hold an author talk and book signing with author Monica Woods, Wednesday, April 6, at 7 p.m. Woods will discuss her her newly released novel, “The One-In-A-Million Boy.”

The book tells the story of an unlikely friendship between a 104-year-old Lithuanian immigrant woman and an 11-year-old Boy Scout obsessed with Guinness world records.

Historical society meets

The Scarborough Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 6. A brief business meeting will be followed with a presentation by Hilary Basset from Greater Portland Landmarks, who will talk about the history of the organization, as well as about former famous businesses on Forest Avenue.

The meeting will be held at the historical society museum off Route 1 in Dunstan.

Maine author Monica Woods will hold an author talk and book signing at Nonesuch Books in South Portland on April 6.
