CLERMONT, Fla. — The University of Southern Maine won two softball games Monday, defeating Worcester State 11-10 before downing St. Lawrence, 7-1.
Against Worcester (1-2), the Huskies (5-1) won on a walk-off double by Shelby Obert to right-center in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Obert went 3 for 5 with three RBI and two runs, and Mary Caron added a solo homer for the Huskies, who scored five runs in the first.
Worcester State took an 8-6 lead in the fourth, but the Huskies scored a run in the fifth and three in the sixth for a 10-8 lead.
Crystal West picked up the win with three innings of relief, allowing two runs on five hits and striking out one.
Against St. Lawrence, Amber Kelly went 3 for 4, and Sammi Goode allowed one run, a walk and five hits, striking out eight. The Huskies got five runs in the fifth to put the game away.
Courtney Davis added two hits, including a run-scoring double in the first.
Southern Maine added a run in the fourth on a groundout, then scored three runs off a fielding error in the fifth.
BASEBALL
ROCHESTER INSTITUTE 7, SOUTHERN MAINE 6: Taylor Hogan hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the 15th inning to lift the Tigers (3-5) over the seventh-ranked Huskies (4-1) at Auburndale, Florida.
The Huskies scored the first three runs in the second, two on a single by Brandon Martins that scored Kyle Heath and Nick DiBiase.
The Lions rallied to lead 6-4 after seven, but a single from Dibiase and a fielding error scored two runs for the Huskies to tie it in the eighth.
DiBiase went 3 for 7 and added two RBI, and Sam Stauble went 3 for 5 with an RBI and two runs for the Huskies, who totaled 14 hits.
WOMEN’S LACROSSE
COLBY 12, UNION 8: Eleven players scored for the ninth-ranked Mules (3-1), who held off 21st-ranked Union (1-2) at Clearwater, Florida.
Abby Hooper scored twice for Colby, and Kendall Smith added a goal and two assists.
Claire Caputi, Bridget Horwood and Kelsey Brown all had a goal and an assist for Colby.
