Key Club members join Waban for benefit dance
Sanford High School Key Club members partnered with Waban last week for a St. Patrick’s Day dance benefiting Waban Projects.
Club members served food, sold tickets and danced alongside Waban attendees.
Waban Projects is a nonprofit corporation which promotes the general welfare and education of children and adults with developmental disabilities.

Ashley Mayhan presented DAISY award by hospital
Bridgton Hospital presented its most recent DAISY Award to Ashley Mayhan, RN, BSN, at Pondicherry Family Medicine for consistently demonstrating excellence on the job, offering compassionate care to patients and modeling outstanding service in the nursing community.
Mayhan was nominated by five of her peers, who cited multiple examples of her outstanding work ethic and attention to patients while on the job.
As a DAISY Award honoree, Mayhan was presented a bouquet of daisies, a DAISY certificate, a DAISY Award pin and a hand-carved stone sculpture titled “A Healer’s Touch.”

Volunteer drivers sought for Cancer Society program
The American Cancer Society is seeking drivers for its Road To Recovery program to provide free transportation to and from treatment for people who have cancer and who do not have a ride or are unable to drive themselves.
Volunteer drivers donate their time and the use of their cars. Drivers also provide encouragement and support.
To volunteer, drivers must have a valid license, a safe and reliable vehicle, and proof of automobile insurance. Drivers must be 18 years of age or older and have a good driving history. They arrange their own schedules and can commit as many or as few hours as their schedule allows.
The American Cancer Society provides free training to drivers and conducts criminal background and driving record checks.

Bank delivers ‘Hope Kits’ to area shelters, organizations
Camden National Bank employees recently compiled and delivered “Hope Kits” to area homeless shelters and charitable organizations as part of its Hope@Home initiative.
All of the bank’s 64 locations hosted month-long, company-wide drives to collect needed items for Maine’s homeless, including personal items, toiletries and nonperishable food.
The bank delivered 2,000 kits to about 50 area shelters and organizations.
Map library sponsors creative map event for fifth-graders
As part of its ongoing educational outreach program, the Osher Map Library and Smith Center for Cartographic Education at USM has launched a map-making contest for Maine’s fifth-grade students, with a total cash prize of $1,000, $500 for the winning student and $500 for the winning student’s class.
Students wishing to participate must submit an illustrated map of anything they choose – the world, their neighborhood, a fictional place or somewhere they’d like to go. The key elements are creativity and originality.
The deadline to enter the contest is Friday. The following week, 10 finalists will be selected for online voting. The winning contestant will receive a check at OML’s Pictoral Map Exhibit opening on April 7.

United Way starts program for small businesses
United Way of Mid-Maine is expanding its collaborative efforts with local businesses by launching the “365 Small Business Circle” program.
This program is designed for small businesses, with 35 employees or less, to become member-supporters by donating $365 or more per year to join a network of other small businesses wanting to make an impact in Somerset, northern Kennebec and western Waldo counties.

Pet store nail clinic raises $550 for Catahoula Rescue
The Loyal Biscuit Co. has raised $550 through a recent nail clipping services fundraiser to benefit the Catahoula Rescue of New England.
The pet store intends to offer several more nail clipping clinics at all of its four stores in Rockland, Belfast Camden and Waterville in April.

Wells Reserve to begin spring naturalist training
The Wells Reserve at Laudholm will begin spring training for volunteer naturalists at 9 a.m. April 4, with an orientation for new participants.
Four additional workshops include skill building and specialized sessions for each field trip program offered by the Reserve.
No experience or special expertise is necessary. Professional educators provide full training and new volunteers will job shadow veteran leaders until they are confident enough to go out on their own.

Three high school students honored for art awards
Three Wells High School art students were recognized at an awards ceremony at the Maine College of Art in Portland recently for placing in the regional portion of the Scholastic Art Awards for 2016.
Senior Angela Leone received the prestigious Silver Key in photography, junior Elana Fortin received honorable mention in photography and senior Elise McCormack-Kuhman received honorable mention in drawing.
Also, McCormack-Kuhman was selected to participate in the annual Youth Art Month exhibit at the Portland Museum of Art. This is an annual exhibit for K-12 Maine students sponsored by the Maine Art Education Association. McCormack-Kuhman’s mixed media artwork is currently on display at the museum through April 3.

Knights of Columbus yard sale accepting table rentals
The Bath Knights of Columbus is accepting table rentals for its upcoming yard sale and cafe, being held in conjunction with Mayfair Day on May 7.
Table rentals are $10 each for the indoor/outdoor sale that will run from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 807 Middle St.
Each vendor space will include a table and two chairs. Set-up is from 4 to 5 p.m. May 6 or 6:30 a.m. May 7. Registrants should include the name of their business, contact person, address, phone number, email address, type of items to be sold and any special requests they may have.
