AUBURNDALE, Fla. — The University of Southern Maine scored four times in the bottom of the second inning on its way to a 5-3 win over St. Scholastica in a college baseball game Sunday.
Sam Stauble had two hits, two RBI and scored a run for Southern Maine (4-0). Nick DiBiase added a two-run triple.
Dalton Rice picked up the win, allowing three runs on four hits, while striking out seven in five innings. Dan Kinnon and Matt Correale combined for four innings of three-hit shutout relief.
Austin Colvard had two hits for the Saints (3-2).
MASSACHUSETTS 10, MAINE 1: Dylan Morris had four hits, three RBI and scored twice as the Minutemen (3-7) beat the Black Bears (5-14) in Lakeland, Florida.
Patrick Coughlin had an RBI double in the eighth for Maine.
HUSSON 9, BATES 7: Andrew Curran drove home a run and scored on Julien Boone’s two-run single to right as the Eagles (3-5) scored three times in the bottom of the sixth to take a 7-5 lead in their win over the Bobcats (5-7) in Bangor.
OBERLIN SWEEPS COLBY: Sam Harris doubled home two runs as Oblerlin broke a 1-1 tie with seven runs in the top of the eighth for an 8-1 extra-inning victory in the first game of a doubleheader in Tucson, Arizona. The Yeomen (2-4) completed their sweep of the Mules (1-3) with a 12-5 victory in the second game.
BOWDOIN 9, LAWRENCE 3: Peter Cimini hit a two-run double and the Polar Bears (5-0) scored five times in the second inning to beat the Vikings (1-6) in Auburndale, Florida.
Cimini finished with three RBI and a run scored for Bowdoin.
SOFTBALL
WORCESTER STATE 12, BATES 10: Taylor Daniels drove in three runs and scored three times as tha Lancers (1-0) beat the Bobcats (0-9) in Clermont, Florida.
Bates trailed 12-0 after three innings, then rallied for seven runs in the fourth to get within 12-8. Madison Fox went 4 for 4 for Bates.
UNION 8, BATES 3: Brianna Godlewski belted a leadoff homer, and Courtney Casey doubled home a run before scoring on a wild pitch, as the Dutchwomen (1-3) scored four runs in the fifth inning to break a tie and beat the Bobcats (0-10) in Clermont, Florida.
COLBY 6, ST. LAWRENCE 0: Julia Saul threw a five-hit shutout and the Mules (1-0) beat St. Lawrence (1-2) in Clermont, Florida.
HAMILTON 15, SOUTHERN MAINE 10: Ursula Castiblanco hit a two-run homer and Jodi Weiss a two-run double as the Continentals (3-7) scored six times in the bottom of the fifth on their way to a win over the Huskies (2-1) in Winter Garden, Florida.
Hamilton had earlier overcome a 7-0 deficit with a seven-run third, only to fall behind 10-7 on a three-run home run by Southern Maine’s Shelby Obert.
SOUTHERN MAINE 9, OBERLIN 1: Samantha Crossman went 3 for 3 with four RBI as the Huskies (4-1) cruised to a win over the Yeomen (0-9) in Clermont, Florida.
Crossman had two doubles and a single for USM. Amber Kelly allowed three hits and a walk over five innings to earn her second win of the season.
FLORIDA A&M 5, MAINE 3: Amber Fullwood hit a sacrifice fly to give the Rattlers (11-19) a 5-0 lead and they held on to beat the Black Bears (8-10) in Clearwater, Florida.
BOWDOIN 7, SALVE REGINA 1: Julia Beaumont pitched a complete game to earn the win and drove in a pair of runs as the Polar Bears beat the Seahawks (1-2) in Clermont, Florida.
BOWDOIN 7, BENEDICTINE 6: The Polar Bears (5-3) scored six runs in the second inning, including a solo home run and a two-run double by Caroline Rice, and beat the Ravens (4-2) for their second win of the day in Clermont, Florida.
