Rick Shinay has been elected as the new president of the Scarborough Land Trust. The election was held during last week’s annual meeting at Broadturn Farm.
Shinay has been on the land trust board for many years and recently served as board clerk. He is also a member of the Acquisition Committee. Shinay has also been active in town planning issues, and has served on the Planning Board and several comprehensive planning and open space committees.
He is serving on the Scarborough Long Range Planning Committeeans is also on the board at the Scarborough Economic Development Corp.
More than 90 people turned out for a presentation by Broadturn farmers Stacy Brenner and John Bliss titled, “Food, Farms and our Travels Abroad.” In recognition of his four years as president of the board, the land trust presented Paul Austin with a pastel painting of Scarborough Marsh created by Scarborough artist Christine Beneman.
In addition to choosing Shinay to head the land trust, two members were elected to the board of directors, Nancy Kelleher and Dawn Piccolo.
Kelleher is a retired state director for AARP and previously worked on policy for the Maine Legislature, serving as chief of staff to Speaker of the House. She is past president of the Scarborough Public Library board, serves on the board of the Portland Health Clinic, and is active with the Scarborough Garden Club.
Piccolo is a retired senior vice president at Fidelity Investments in Boston and is an independent management consultant. She has chaired the land trust’s Fresh from the Farm dinner at Broadturn Farm for three years and serves on the land trust’s Development and Communications Committee.
