A Biddeford man accused of sexually abusing a young woman over multiple years has been arrested on a warrant charging gross sexual assault, a felony.

Ralph Miller, 44, was taken into custody by police at his place of work in York on Wednesday and taken to York County Jail in Alfred, where he was being held on $50,000 cash bail.

Biddeford Police Chief Roger Beaupre said Miller committed the assaults over several years, dating back to when the victim was a minor. But because of statutes of limitation, detectives were only able to charge Miller with a Class B felony rather than the more serious Class A felony, he said.

Beaupre declined to comment further on the accusations against Miller, other than to say that detectives from his department have been investigating the case for more than a month.

Miller is scheduled to make his initial court appearance on the charge by video link from the jail on Friday afternoon. If convicted, he faces up to 10 years in prison.
