Cancer center holds online auction

The Cancer Community Center in South Portland is holding its 13th annual online auction now through March 23. This auction is an important fundraiser and with more than 400 items the hope is that this year’s event will raise at least $40,000.

B-ball Bonanza at

at Cape middle school

Cape Elizabeth Middle School will host its annual Basketball Bonanza, Thursday, March 17, from 6-8 p.m.,when the eighth-grade girls and boys teams take on teachers and staff in an entertainingand wild competition. The event also includes a foul shot contest. Pizza, snacks and drinks will be available at the concession stand. The cost is $2 per person or a maximum of $10 for a family.

‘Bye Bye Birdie’ at SMS

The theater team at Scarborough Middle School will present “Bye Bye Birdie: Young Performers Edition” on Friday, March 18, at 6 p.m.; Saturday, March 19, at 2 and 6 p.m.; and Sunday, March 20, at 2 p.m., in Winslow Homer Auditorium at Scarborough High School. Call 730-4800 for more information.

Belfast Brogue in concert

Belfast Brogue will offer a post-St. Patrick’s Day concert on Saturday, March 19, at the Thomas Memorial Library in Cape Elizabeth. The free event begins at 2 p.m. Belfast Brogue, which includes local musicians Jud Caswell and Alfred Lund, is known for its pub-style Irish music. Mustache March

Easter egg hunts offered

On Saturday, March 19, Scarborough is the place to be to take part in a couple fun Easter egg hunts, which are free and open to the public.

Scarborough Free Baptist Church, 55 Mussey Road, holds an afternoon of fun for children of all ages from 2-4 p.m. Call 883-2336 for more information.

Scarborough Community Services hosts a visit from the Easter bunny and hunt for candy at Wentworth School playground, from 1-7:30 p.m. The schedule is as follows: pre-K and K, 1 p.m.;  first and second grades, 2:30 p.m.; grades 3-5, 7:30 p.m. For the evening event participants are encouraged to bring a flashlight. Also, all attendees should bring their own basket or bag. The Easter bunny will be available for photographs between 1:30 and 2 p.m. and again between 3 and 3:30 p.m. The rain date is Sunday, March 20. Call 730-4150 for more information.

Meeting on Pine Point Road improvements

The Scarborough Planning Department will hold a community meeting on proposed Complete Street improvements for Pine Point Road, Tuesday March 22, at 6:30 p.m., at the fire station, 8 King St.

The public is invited to review and provide input on concept plans intended to make the portion of Pine Point Road between the railroad bridge overpass and East Grand Avenue safer and more comfortable for walkers, bikers and motorists.

Cape church screens ‘Surviving the Holocaust’

The Cape Elizabeth United Methodist Church will host a screening of the new documentary, “Max: Surviving the Holocaust,” Wednesday, March 23. There will be a short reception beginning at 6:15 p.m. and the movie will begin at 6:45. This event is free and open to the public.

The film was produced by Daniel Lambert, of the University of New England, and features the story of Portland resident and Holocaust survivor Max Slabotzky, who will be in attendance and available for questions before and afterward.

The film tells the story, in Slabotzky’s own words, about how as a young boy he was in hiding during the Nazi occupation of his native Belgium, his capture by the S.S., and how he survived the concentration camp at Auschwitz. For more information, call all 799-8396 or see www.ceumc.org.

Youth Art Month at Cape library

In celebration of Youth Art Month, Cape Elizabeth art teachers Maryjane Johnston and Marguerite Lawler-Rohner have curated a show of student artwork past and present, which is now on display at the Thomas Memorial Library.
