Four Scots competed at Noble in the Class A Wrestling State Finals on Saturday, Feb. 13, and two – Caleb Frost and Joe Kenney – ultimately placed. Frost finished fourth in the 120-pound weight class, and Kenney took third at 160.
Frost bested Richard Oberg of Skowhegan 5-2 early in the championship bracket, but fell to Austin Shorey of Noble in the following round. He slid into the consolation bracket from there, where he upended Jabbar Belin of Mt. Ararat/Brunswick via pin at 2:02 before succumbing to Jeremy Sendrowski of Scarborough in another pin, this one at 2:27.
Kenney bounced Noah Featherson of Westbrook to begin the day, 6-1, but lost to Kameron Doucette of Skowhegan – the eventual champion – in the second round, a pin at 5:24. Over in the consolation bracket, Kenney trumped Nic Mills of Cony, a pin at 3:50, which faced him off with Featherson once more. Kenney defeated Featherson 6-0 for his third-place finish.
Cody Mains (152) and Brian Dupuis (220) also reached the tournament, though neither one had quite as good a day as Frost or Kenney.
Skowhegan won the team title, amassing 144 points; Marshwood took second at 123 and Noble third at 112. Bonny Eagle picked up 22 total, and finished 14th overall.
