UTICA, N.Y. — Alexandre Grenier had a goal and two assists and Joe Cannata stopped 33 shots for the Utica Comets in a 5-2 win over the Portland Pirates Wednesday night at Utica Memorial Auditorium.
Grenier scored his eighth goal midway through the second period to give Utica a 3-0 lead before assisting on third-period goals by Jon Landry and Hunter Shinkaruk.
Joseph LaBate and Chris Higgins scored in the first period for the Comets, who won three straight against the Pirates and took the season series, 3-1.
The Pirates got both goals in the third period. Wade Megan scored his seventh goal short-handed at 6:52, and Tyler Sikura picked up his first of the season from Chase Balisy and Mackenzie Weegar with 6:30 left.
Mike McKenna made 26 saves for the Pirates, who had a three-game winning streak snapped.
Portland outshot Utica 35-31 and was 0 of 5 on the power-play.
