
She was born in Saco on April 19, 1924, the daughter of Linwood and Shirley Haynes Jellerson, and graduated from local schools.
In 1942, she married Ben Emery. She accompanied her husband, who was a captain on super tankers, on many voyages along the Atlantic Gulf Coast as well as to the Panama Canal, Aruba and Puerto Rico.
June was a trustee for the Old Orchard Beach Library for many years and a member of the United Baptist Church of Saco. She was a volunteer and acting curator for the Old Orchard Beach Historical Society Museum for many years, and a member of the Women’s Education and Industrial Union Inc.
She also volunteered at the Saco Food Pantry, the Ocean Pines and Meals on Wheels. In 1992, the Town of Old Orchard Beach dedicated their annual report to June and Ben.
She was a prolific knitter who made countless pairs of mittens for her family and local mitten drives. She was an avid Patriots football fan and one of “Gronk”’s biggest admirers.
She also enjoyed reading and her weekly Michigan Rummy games with “the girls.” She had a knack for delighting young children.
She was preceded in death by: the love of her life, her husband Ben in 2010; a grandson, Michael Hall; and brothers Lawrence and Bernard.
She is survived by: two children, Ben Emery and his wife Pam of Old Orchard Beach, and Rosalie Ann Heart of Virginia; three grandchildren, Dr. Kelli Hall, Travis Emery and his wife Elizabeth, and Ellenor Barish and her husband Michael; seven greatgrandchildren, Malia and Noah Ben Martinez, Max, Anna, and Jesse Barish, and Margaret Mae and Luke Emery; numerous nieces and nephews; and a sister-in-law, Molly Emery of Saco.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 20, at the Dennett, Craig & Pate Funeral Home, 365 Main St., Saco. Rev. Beverly Lowell of United Baptist Church will officiate.
