Police charged two men Wednesday night with aggravated trafficking of heroin that was destined to be sold in the Biddeford-Saco area, authorities said.

An investigation by the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency led to the arrests of Jeffrey March, 24, of Saco, and Brandon Perry, 23, of Scarborough, who were stopped on Route 1 in York after they allegedly traveled to Massachusetts to buy the heroin, according to a statement by the MDEA.

Agents say they saw March and Perry leave the state, and confirmed they had traveled to Lawrence, Massachusetts, before returning to Maine.

During the traffic stop, a dog alerted officers to the presence of narcotics on both men. In total, troopers seized 24 grams of heroin, enough for about 240 doses, with a street value of about $3,800.

Both men are being held at the York County Jail in Alfred in lieu of $100,000 bail.
