The Scarborough Board of Education invites parents and members of the community to participate in the search for a new superintendent of schools.
The Board of Education invites applicants to serve as a community representative to the Screening Committee, a group comprised of 15-17 people including parents, school staff, school administrators and members of the community. Interested individuals must be able to maintain a high level of professionalism and confidentiality.
They must also be available for a series of mandatory meetings, the first of which are scheduled for March 21 and 22 from 4-7:30 p.m. at the Town Hall in Chambers B. At that time, a New England School Development Council search consultant, Dr. Ken DeBenedictis, will facilitate a training workshop. The consultant will then assist in reviewing applications and selecting candidates the Screening Committee wishes to interview.
During the week of March 28, the Screening Committee will interview several candidates who best fit the profile established for the superintendent position and recommend candidates for further consideration by the Board of Education. Full participation in all of these sessions is required of the committee.
Interested individuals should contact Kelly Johnston at kjohnston@scarboroughschools.org with an email confirming their willingness and ability to attend all required meetings. One community member who has expressed interest will be randomly selected at an upcoming School Board meeting and notified immediately thereafter.
In addition, the Board of Education will be establishing focus groups designed to obtain participant input about the attributes, experience and knowledge that the new superintendent should possess. The groups will also help the school board define and prioritize issues for the new superintendent to address.
The focus group session for parents and community members will be conducted in the High School multipurpose room on March 2 at 7 p.m. The focus group will last approximately 1-1.5 hours. All Scarborough residents are welcome.
