The City Council confirmed David Jackson as Portland’s permanent fire chief on Monday night, acting on the recommendation by City Manager Jon Jennings.
Jackson had been the interim chief since Jerome LaMoria resigned on Oct. 20.
Jackson started with the department in July 1990 as a firefighter. He was promoted to lieutenant in 2000, then to captain in 2004, followed by deputy chief in 2010 and assistant chief in June 2014.
“I’m grateful for the selection and I look forward to continually working hard every day to meet our mission of serving this great community,” Jackson said after Jenning’s announcement last week.
He will earn an annual salary of $112,554.
