KENNEBUNK — Since 1987 the Camden Conference, in partnership with the World Affairs Council, has brought speakers in from around the world to discuss topics regarding timely regional and global policy issues in regions such as Japan, the Middle East and Russia.

This year the conference is focusing on Africa. The Kennebunk Free Library is a participating library bringing an extension of this conference to the local community. It will host speakers discussing topics such as Burundian women’s strength, Rwandan reconciliation and Tanzanian schools. There will also be community members presenting and displaying their personal collections of African art and clothing as well as a book discussion. All programs are free and no registration is required.

Mia Ntahoban will present Burundian Women’s Strength on Tuesday, Feb. 2 at 6 p.m. (Snow date: Tuesday, Feb. 9 at 6 p.m.).

Kate Olise will present Nigerian Culture on Wednesday, Feb. 10 at 6 p.m. (Snow date: Wednesday, Feb. 17 at 6 p.m.).

KFL will also offer a book discussion on the novel ‘Cutting for Stone’ by Abraham Verghese on Thursday, Feb. 18.

The Camden Conference is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization whose mission is to foster informed discourse on world issues. This year’s conference will be held Feb. 19-21.
