AMHERST, Mass. — Five players scored as the University of Maine picked up its first road win of the season Friday night, a 5-2 Hockey East victory over Massachusetts.
Conor Riley, Steven Swavely, Brendan Robbins and Blaine Byron each had a goal and an assist, and Brian Morgan also scored as Maine (6-15-6, 3-8-2 Hockey East) improved to 1-7-1 in road games.
Robbins broke a 1-1 tie with his second career goal just 23 seconds into the second period. Riley made it 3-1 later in the period, and Morgan and Swavely scored just 11 seconds apart in the third after Austin Plevy’s power-play goal for UMass (7-15-4, 2-10-4) cut the deficit to 3-2.
Matt Morris made 28 saves to earn the win.
BABSON 4, UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND 3: Tommy Munichiello scored twice as the Beavers (14-4-2, 10-2-1 NEHC) edged the Nor’easters (11-7-2, 7-5-1) in Babson Park, Massachusetts.
Ryan Quinn, Jackson Tucker and Armand Uomoleale scored a goal apiece and Joe Noonan finished with 39 saves for UNE.
UMASS-BOSTON 5, SOUTHERN MAINE 2: Tyler Bishop scored twice and Frankie DeAugustine had three assists as the Beacons (15-3-2, 11-1 NEHC) overcame a career-high 53 saves by Kyle Shapiro to beat the Huskies (5-14-1, 2-11) in Boston.
USM’s Aaron Carmichael tied the game late in the second period.
The Beacons broke it open with three power-play goals in the third.
Alex Pantalone put USM ahead with an unassisted goal midway through the first period.
WOMEN’S HOCKEY
UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND 1, SOUTHERN MAINE 0: Shannon Smith scored with 6:56 remaining to lift the Nor’easters (10-5-2, 5-4-1 NEHC) over the Huskies (2-14-1, 1-8-1) at Gorham.
Sydney Helmbrecht made 21 saves to earn the shutout for the Nor’easters, who set a school record for wins in a season.
USM’s Britney Evangelista finished with 23 saves.
BOWDOIN 0, WESLEYAN 0: Sophia Lattanzio made 28 saves for Bowdoin as the Polar Bears (6-8-2, 3-5-1 NESCAC) played to a scoreless tie against the Cardinals (4-11-1, 1-7-1) in Brunswick.
Bowdoin outshot the Cardinals 31-15 after the first period but couldn’t get the puck past Wesleyan goalie Corinne Rivard, who finished with 36 saves.
TRINITY 2, COLBY 0: The Bantams (8-7-1, 2-6-1 NESCAC) got first-period goals from Brooke Heron and Cheeky Herr to beat the Mules (5-10-3, 3-7-1) in Hartford, Connecticut.
Angelica Crites made 23 saves for Colby.

IOWA STATE: Kate Hall of Casco broke a 19-year-old school record in the long jump while finishing second in the Razorback Invitational at Fayetteville, Arkansas.
Hall, in her second college meet, jumped 21 feet, 51/2 inches, breaking the record of 21-03/4.

NORTH CAROLINA: Coach Sylvia Hatchell faces a two-game suspension for making contact with an official during a recent loss to Duke as well as for an NCAA violation.
