As we get caught up in another election cycle, emotions can run high, but they do not pre-empt using decent language to convey our thoughts.

We have, unfortunately, assimilated a crass vocabulary into our political discourse.

Mainers have been subjected to this for the last few years emanating from the governor’s office, but now we are being exposed to it on the national stage.

Sarah Palin has contributed to this most recently by wanting to “kick ISIS’ ass” (“Donald Trump picks up key endorsement from Sarah Palin,” Jan. 19) and describing Donald Trump as a president who would be “ballsy enough” to take on the issues of greatest concern.

If this is the kind of discourse we accept from our leaders, then civility in our national problem-solving will not happen.
