Re: “Reunited Sudanese family embraces future in Maine” (Jan. 1):

Congratulations to Susan Kimball for the wonderful front-page article, so thoughtfully and sensitively written, and to Derek Davis for what should be an award-winning photo of the father and son reunited after five long years. The picture tells the story so well.

And congratulations, too, to the editorial board of the Press Herald, who continue to keep their focus on the human side of the turmoil in the world in ways like this both at home and abroad.

It’s a fine newspaper, and I am grateful for it every day.
