NORTH WATERBORO — Robert D. Girard, 80, of North Waterboro, died Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2016, at Gosnell Memorial House in Scarborough.

He was born July 18, 1935, to Emile and Delvina

Caron) Girard in Biddeford. He was educated

( in Biddeford schools, and served in the U.S. Army.

On May 27, 1979, Robert married Gloria Mooers in Lyman. He worked as a commercial truck driver, and his routes took him all over the country until his retirement in 2002.

He was a member of the Disabled Veteran’s Association, VFW Old Orchard Beach Post 7997 and the Knights of Columbus. He loved to play cribbage and horseshoes. He enjoyed fishing and gardening, and always worked hard to keep his lawn a beautiful green.

He is preceded in death by: a daughter, Lorriane Girard, in 2001, and a grandson, Benjamin Cote.

Robert is survived by: His loving wife of 36 years, Gloria Girard of Waterboro; five children, Constance Girard of Bangor, Norman Girard and Richard Girard of Old Orchard Beach, Bertrand Girard and his wife Sue of Hollis, and Roland Girard and his wife Denise of Hollis; five siblings, Mr. and Mrs. Raoul Girard and Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Girard of Biddeford, Mrs. Theresa Chevetle of Rhode Island, Mrs. Juliet Lonsdale of Saco and Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Vigneault of Bingham; 13 grandchildren; three greatgrandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

There will be no visiting hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 8, 2016, at St. Matthew’s Church in Limerick. Spring burial will be in Goodwins Mills Cemetery in Lyman. Donations in Robert’s memory may be made to: Disabled Veterans National Foundation, www.DVNF.org.
