ST. JOHN’S, Newfoundland — Five players scored and Mike McKenna made 29 saves to lead the Portland Pirates to a 5-1 win over the St. John’s IceCaps on Friday at the Mile One Centre.

John McFarland scored his 12th goal of the season and Rob Schremp converted on a 5-on-3 power-play in the first period when the Pirates outshot the IceCaps 20-6.

Greg McKegg made it 3-0 before St. John’s Bud Holloway snapped Portland’s 29-straight penalty kill streak with 7:15 left in the second.

Connor Brickley, playing in his first game with the Pirates after a 23-game stint with the Florida Panthers, put Portland up 4-1 with a power-play goal at 7:25 of the third. Brett Olsen added a late empty-netter.

Brent Regner had three assists, while Schremp and Cameron Gaunce had two assists for Portland.

Zachary Fucale stopped 32 shots for St. John’s.
