Kyle Rau scored his second goal of the game 1:46 into overtime, and the Portland Pirates beat Lehigh Valley 4-3 on Saturday night at the Cross Insurance Arena.
Rocco Grimaldi and Cameron Gaunce assisted on the play for the Pirates, who surrendered a two-goal lead in the second period.
Rob Schremp and Garrett Wilson also scored for the Pirates, and Mike McKenna made 29 saves to secure the victory.
It was a rough start for McKenna and the Pirates. Petr Straka scored just 15 seconds into the game to give Lehigh Valley a 1-0 lead.
Schremp’s goal at 10:46 evened the score before Wilson got his goal at 17:02 to give Portland its first lead.
Rau’s first goal gave Portland a 3-1 lead at 14:23 of the second period before the Phantoms struck back with two goals less than a minute apart, from Mark Alt and Aaron Palushaj, to tie the score.
Anthony Stolarz made 28 saves for Lehigh Valley.
