DES MOINES, Iowa — Coron Williams and Levi Randolph came off the bench to spark the Maine Red Claws to a 101-90 victory over the Iowa Engery in a D-League game Saturday night at the Wells Fargo Arena.
Williams scored 18 points, including 14 in the first half, as Maine (8-6) outscored Iowa (7-8) 45-24 over the final 16 minutes of the first half to take a 58-38 halftime lead.
Kevin Young started the surge, putting back the rebound to give Maine a 15-14 lead with 3:58 left in the opening quarter.
Randolph added 13 points during the Red Claws’ run and finished with 26.
Lazeric Jones scored 18 of his 30 points in the third quarter as Iowa cut the Red Claws’ lead to nine. The Energy continued their rally into the fourth quarter, pulling within 95-90 on Maxie Esho’s jumper with 2:23 remaining in the game. The Red Claws then went 6 of 6 from the line in the final minutes and held Iowa scoreless to secure the win.
Malcolm Miller added 14 points, and Omari Johnson and Coty Clarke each had 13 for Maine. Joel Wright scored 26 points, Alex Stepheson 16 and Terry Whisant 12 for Iowa.
Maine plays at Iowa again on Monday night.
