He was born Dec. 28, 1931, to Donald and Lucy (Henderson) McCarthy in Littleton. He attended Houlton High School. Arthur moved to Biddeford in 1951.
On Feb. 28, 1953, he married Aline Boutin at St. Joseph’s Church in Biddeford.
Arthur served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He worked as a mason contractor, and owned and operated Red’s Masonry until his retirement in 1990. He was also a lifetime member of the American Legion Owen-Davis Post 96. He enjoyed snowmobiling, reading and gardening.
He is preceded in death by: five brothers, Robert, Lawrence, Earl, John and Harold McCarthy; one stepbrother, Ralph Cunliffe; and two sisters, Evelyn Austin and Marietta Czeykus.
Arthur is survived by: his loving wife of 62 years, Aline McCarthy of Biddeford; two children, Mike McCarthy and his fiancee Janine Audet of Auburn and Judy Methot of Biddeford; one brother, Phillip McCarthy and his wife Carole of Winslow; three grandchildren, Sarah Lavoie and her husband Nicholas of Scarborough, Amanda Methot of Biddeford, and Samuel Methot of Biddeford; two great-grandchildren, Grace and Walter Lavoie of Scarborough; and several nieces and nephews.
A private service will be held. Burial will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery in Saco. The family would like to give a special thank you to Dr. Michael Festino.
