The Scarborough Board of Education voted at a meeting on Dec. 17 to enter into a contract with the New England School Development Council to hire a new superintendent.
Schools leader George Entwistle announced earlier this month that he would be retiring at the end of the academic year after heading up the school department for five years.
According to a press release issued by the school board, the New England School Development Council was founded in 1946 with the purpose of utilizing “the expertise of former school administrators and educational workshop providers to help schools and districts become high-performance organizations.”
The Scarborough board turned to the council when it hired Entwistle and Donna Beeley, chairwoman of the school board, said the success of the last search was a large part of the board’s decision to work with the council again.
“The board is very excited to join with (the New England School Development Council) in an effort to seek a highly qualified superintendent who will continue the great work that has been happening in Scarborough Schools for the past five years,” Beeley said in the press release.
She added that the council, “has an outstanding capacity to network and recruit highly qualified individuals. They have a proven track record of selecting successful candidates to serve New England schools.”
Representatives from the council will make a presentation at the school board’s Jan. 7, meeting at 7 p.m.
“Although the school board will be disappointed to lose Dr. Entwistle, we are glad to engage our community in this opportunity to select a visionary leader who will continue to develop the outstanding educational initiatives underway,” Beeley said.
