Rob Schremp uncorked a buzzer-beating slap shot in the final second of overtime to give the Portland Pirates a 3-2 victory over the Providence Bruins before a crowd of 4,104 Saturday night at Cross Insurance Arena.
It was the second goal of the evening for Schremp and came 15 seconds after teammate Rocco Grimaldi was stopped on a breakaway attempt as the teams skated three-on-three.
For the second consecutive night, the Pirates failed to hold a third-period lead. They lost 3-1 to Bridgeport Friday night and took a 2-1 edge into the third Saturday against a Providence team that had won five in a row.
Rob Flick also scored in regulation for the Pirates, on a rebound in the first period. Schremp got a power-play goal in the second.
Austin Czarnik scored both Providence goals, on a second-period breakaway and then the equalizer with a little more than seven minutes left in regulation.
The Pirates conclude a four-game homestand Wednesday night against Springfield.
