Westbrook police arrested a 62-year-old transient on Sunday afternoon after he fled Rite Aid with stolen merchandise.
On Sunday, Nov. 22, at 4:13 p.m. Westbrook police responded to the report of an armed robbery at Rite Aid located at 465 Main St. According to Capt. Sean Lally, the suspect, Mark Lyon, concealed merchandise and left the store. When confronted by Rite Aid staff in the parking lot, Lyon allegedly brandished a knife in a threatening manner and fled on foot.
Westbrook police officers Melissa May and Jaci Lorenzen were nearby at the time of the call and located Lyon hiding behind some trash cans in the driveway of 420 Main St. The officers took Lyon into custody and recovered the knife.
Lyon was taken to the Cumberland County Jail and charged with robbery, criminal threatening and an outstanding warrant for felony theft. Lyon’s criminal history, Lally said, spans five decades with arrests as far back as 1970. He is being held in lieu of bail.
