In caucuses held Monday, the City Council and Board of Education in South Portland have both reached consensus on who will lead the respective boards for the next year.
Longtime Councilor Tom Blake is set to become the city’s next mayor during an inauguration planned for 4 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 7.
Blake has served as mayor before and will be taking over the reins from outgoing Mayor Linda Cohen.
In terms of the school board, current Chairman Dick Matthews is set to lead the board for another year.
In Scarborough, with only one new member elected to the Board of Education, Donna Beeley is set to lead for another year, while it’s unclear who will take over from outgoing Council Chairwoman Jessica Holbrook, who did not seek re-election.
The Scarborough and Cape Elizabeth councils are both set to deliberate next week on who will lead those boards through the next year. Both meetings will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 18.
And, according to Cape School Board Chairwoman Joanna Morrissey, that body will caucus on Dec. 7 to decide on who will lead for the upcoming year.
This week Cape Council Chairwoman Kathy Ray said she’s not sure who might be interested in leading for the next year.
