Magazine history topic of talk

Kathleen Fleury, a Yarmouth native and editor-in-chief of Down East Magazine, will speak Tuesday, Nov. 17, at 7 p.m., at the Yarmouth History Center, 118 East Elm St. She will discuss the history of the longstanding Maine magazine. This event is free for members of Yarmouth Historical Society and $5 for all others.

Fundraiser ?coming Dec. 9

The Yarmouth Chamber of Commerce is hosting its Boast n Toast fundraising event on Wednesday, Dec. 9, from 5-8:30 p.m., at The Muddy Rudder, Route 1. Jana Barnello of WGME and Fox 23 Maine is the MC. There will be food, drinks, live music, awards and silent and live auctions featuring more than 200 items to benefit the chamber’s Scholarship Fund and the Merrill Memorial Library.

Local dancers in ‘The Nutcracker’

Sixteen Yarmouth residents will be among the 300 dancers performing in the Maine State Ballet’s “The Nutcracker,” at Portland’s Merrill Auditorium, Saturday, Nov. 28 through Sunday, Dec. 6. The performances will also feature live music from the Maine State Ballet Orchestra, singing from the Musica de Filia Girls Chorus, and costumes and stage scenery by Gail Csoboth.

Performances are Saturday, Nov. 28, at 2 and 7 p.m.; Sunday, Nov. 29, at 2 p.m.; Friday, Dec. 4, at 7 p.m.; Saturday, Dec. 5, at 2 and 7 p.m.; and Sunday, Dec. 6, at 2 p.m. The local dancers are Sophie Bray, Ella Brown, Caroline Chittum, Lila Coleman, Haley Doan, Anelise Feldman, Emma Kennedy, Gabrielle Merchi-Rossini, Elana Owen, Emma Pazar, Elise Pendleton, Madeline Richard, Allegra Vitalius, Sara Wentzell, Sophie Wentzell and Lilliana Yan.

Documentary on water screens Nov. 19

The Yarmouth Historical Society and Royal River Conservation Trust will present a free screening of the film, “Blue Gold: World Water Wars,” Thursday, Nov. 19, at 7 p.m., at the Yarmouth History Center, 118 East Elm St., as part of the Royal River Film Series. The award-winning documentary examines the environmental and political dimensions of the planet’s water supply and highlights ways in which communities are taking action to improve access to water.

This is the fifth film in a series planned jointly by the Yarmouth Historical Society and the Royal River Conservation Trust. The series will continue on the third Thursday of each month through March (no film in December). Next is “The Salt of the Earth, Jan. 21, at 7 p.m.

Merrill Memorial Library has announced its selections for upcoming Readers Circle book discussions.
