The Maine Drug Enforcement Agency and the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office arrested two Naples men Tuesday night on charges of aggravated trafficking in heroin.

Arrested were Lawrence Dyer, 51, and Kenneth Brown, 28.

According to Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland, MDEA agents and detectives from the sheriff’s office have been investigating the illegal distribution of heroin in the Naples area for the past month. The investigation revealed that Dyer and Brown were routinely traveling out of state to purchase large quantities of heroin which they would then repackage and sell throughout the greater Naples area, he said.

Tuesday afternoon, agents observed Dyer and Brown leave Maine by car and late Tuesday night around 11 p.m., Cumberland County deputies and Windham police conducted a traffic stop of a car operated by Brown on Route 302 in Raymond. A drug recognition dog alerted to the presence of drugs inside the vehicle, and about 27.5 grams of heroin was seized. Brown and Dyer, who was a passenger, were arrested without incident. Both were transported to the Cumberland County Jail where bail was set at $10,000 each. The approximate street value of the heroin is $5,000.
