GRAY — Agnes Stansfield died peacefully on Oct. 29, 2015, surrounded by her family after a short illness. Agnes was born in Sanford on June 24, 1925, the daughter of Hugh and Jessie Mac- Gregor- Hill. She attended schools in Sanford and New York City, graduating from Sanford High School.

Agnes was an accomplished musician, talented in voice, organ, and piano; she directed many choirs and a barbershop quartet. She shared her love of fine music with her children and grandchildren and was a strong advocate for music education in schools.

By profession, Agnes was a nurse, earning her LPN. She provided compassionate care for patients in H.D. Goodall Hospital in Sanford as well as Coastal Manor in Yarmouth. She also participated in countless health programs within the communities of Gray and New Gloucester.

 

 

Her love of community was evident in her involvement in American Legion Auxiliary, AVESTA Housing, and Eastern Star. She enjoyed coordinating and volunteering with town variety shows, community Halloween parties, blood drives, church fairs and, of course public bean suppers. She was a member of the North Parish Congregational Church in Sanford as well as First Congregational Church in Gray, donating countless hours of service directing choirs and serving on various boards and committees.

Agnes is preceded in death by: her first husband, David L. Krause Sr. in 1952; by her husband of 47 years, Arnold C. Stansfield in 2003; and by her eldest son, John D. Krause in 1974.

She is survived by: her children, David L. Krause Jr. of Beverly Hills, Florida, Sheila Krause Giancola of New Gloucester, William Stansfield and his wife Orapan of Ft. Walton Beach, Florida, and by Robert Stansfield and his wife Rose of New Gloucester.

She had six grandchildren: John Krause of Missouri, David Benjamin Krause of Las Vegas, Nevada, April (Stansfield) Corcoran and her husband Shane of Gray, Eric Giancola of New York City, and Colin Stansfield and Molly Stansfield of New Gloucester; and a greatgrandson, Spencer Corcoran of Gray. Agnes is also survived by her dear little Cairn terrier, MacDuff (Duffy), who had been her constant companion for 12 years.

The family would like to gratefully acknowledge the wonderful care received by Beacon Home Health & Hospice, Gray Fire & Rescue and the nursing staff of CMMC.

A memorial service will be held at the First Congregational Church of Gray at 11 Yarmouth Road on Saturday, Nov. 7 at 11:00 a.m.
