The 2015 Southern Maine Cross Country Regionals unfolded at Twin Brook in Cumberland on Saturday, Oct. 24, with Freeport looking particularly strong as the state championship approaches. The Gentlemen Falcons took first as a team at the Class B regional competition, anchored by Chandler Vincent, Henry Jaques and Eric Brobst, who respectively finished third, fourth and sixth. On the girls’ side, Yarmouth finished first, while the Lady Falcons took fifth.

In Class C action, the Waynflete girls took first, as did the Boothbay boys. Maine Coast Waldorf’s ladies finished second, while their gentlemen earned fifth.

“We had a great day Saturday,” said Freeport head coach Brian Berkemeyer. “It all started with a solid performance from my girls team. We knew we had the talent to make it back to States, and the girls did the work.”

“[The boys] were supposed to run to get a feel for the course,” Berkemeyer said. “Winning was a pleasant surprise after barely winning the Conference. I’m so impressed and proud of my runners. They run with heart and determination.”

The top half of all teams qualify for Oct. 31’s state meet, which will also take place at Twin Brook.
