Maine native Caroline Koelker has been appointed managing director of PORTopera. Koelker most recently served as event coordinator and development manager for Longy School of Music of Bard College in Cambridge, Massachusetts, where she earned her master’s degree in opera performance. She earned her bachelor’s degree in vocal performance at the University of Maine in Orono. She lives in Westbrook and is a member of the Choral Art Society and Vox Nova.
As managing director, Koelker is responsible for managing all aspects of the opera company’s productions, outreach and fundraising, and joins artistic director Dona D. Vaughn as the company’s senior managers.
Board President Ann Elderkin cited Koelker’s knowledge of opera and fundraising as part of the reason for her hire. PORTopera will announce its 2016 plans this fall.
