Antique tractor enthusiasts will demonstrate plowing and harrowing with vintage farm equipment at the annual Plow Days on Saturday, Oct. 17, and Sunday, Oct. 18, at Parsons Dairy Farm on Buck Street in Gorham.

The public is invited and admission is free.

Proceeds from a pancake breakfast at 7:30 a.m. and lunch with hot dogs and hamburgers at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday will benefit the White Rock Grange, which sponsors the meals. Coffee, muffins and doughnuts will be available on Sunday, Oct. 18, at 7:30 a.m.

Founders Festival reminder

The annual Gorham Founders Festival will be held this weekend.

It kicks off with a reception honoring the Irish family 6-10 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 16, at Spire 29 on School Street. The festivities continue at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 17, at Gorham Municipal Center, 75 South St. The Motor Booth Affair concert 6-8 p.m. will conclude the fest.

Meet the candidates

Gorham voters are invited to “Meet the Candidates” for the Town Council at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 20, in the Town Council chambers at Gorham Municipal Center, 75 South St.

The candidates are incumbents Sherrie Benner and Shonn Moulton, who face challengers Muhammad Khan and Marla Stelk in the race for two available seats for three-year terms.

The municipal election is set for Tuesday, Nov. 3.

Human trafficking topic of session

The series about human trafficking will continue following a potluck meal at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 23, at South Gorham Baptist Church, County Road (Route 22), Gorham.

Organizer Cindy Elder said youth would be the focus of the program.

“Bob Atherton, director of THRIVE New England, and Katyana Whiteley will speak about the THRIVE Youth Task Force which has launched a movement to educate youth about human trafficking–how to stay safe and how to take effective action,” Elder said in an announcment. “Bob will also give us an update on recent developments with THRIVE on the way to opening their aftercare program for trafficked teens.

Ken Hawley, director of Straight Ahead Ministries Maine, will join Atherton and Whitely to share the successes they’ve seen as they’ve cared for incarcerated teens and their push to open a home/discipleship community for youth released from lockup.

“The goal of Straight Ahead Ministries is to have young offenders re-enter their communities as productive citizens and strong Christ followers,” Elder said.

Those attending are asked to take food to share.
