890899 Dr. Edward GilmoreMDI Hospital has named Dr. Edward Gilmore as its first chief medical officer.
He will serve as a liaison between the medical staff, the administration and the hospital’s board of trustees. He will also work to represent the hospital’s medical staff and provide physician input regarding budget issues and other administrative concerns. He will continue to serve as the hospital’s chief of medicine.

 

890899 Manuela ArundelMilestone Foundation has hired of Manuela Arundel as new director of development.
She brings more than 10 years of experience in nonprofit social services, housing and education sectors. She previously served as director of development for the Maine State Society for the Protection of Animals, and as an associate for philanthropic equity for the Housing Partnership Network. She also served as general manager of ITNAmerica, a nonprofit transportation service for seniors in the Greater Portland area.

Michael Stairs was named chief operating officer of Care & Comfort.
He brings nearly 30 years of business, financial, IT and operational management experience. He previously worked for Seniors Plus/Elder Independence of Maine. Most recently, he was chief operating officer of a company that provides direct home health care services.

He is practicing with Central Maine Heart Associates, a comprehensive cardiology practice with its main offices at the Central Maine Heart and Vascular Institute in Lewiston.

 

 

Island Nursing Home has hired Marjorie Love as its new administrator.
She is a licensed, multilevel long-term care administrator who has worked at nursing homes in Saco, Mechanic Falls and Farmington. She also has more than 40 years of experience managing Maine nonprofits.
She succeeds Marc Plourde, who retires Friday after more than 11 years at the helm.

PROMOTIONS
Matthew Perry was promoted to community education and communications coordinator at Family Crisis Services.
He has worked as a trained domestic violence advocate for Family Crisis Services since 1999. He was the first man in Maine to staff one of the Maine Coalition to End Domestic Violence 24-hour domestic violence crisis hot lines. He has facilitated over a thousand programs to more than 100,000 community members over his 16-year tenure.

AWARDS and RECOGNITIONS
Spurwink has announced that it will honor the Volk family of Scarborough for their autism awareness advocacy.
Derek Volk has recently written a book, “Chasing the Rabbit: A Dad’s Life Raising a Son on the Autism Spectrum.” He is president and co-owner of Volk Packaging Corp. in Biddeford. Amy Volk is the state senator for District 30, which includes most of Buxton and Scarborough and all of Gorham. Dylan Volk, who was diagnosed with Asperger’s syndrome at the age of 8, has joined his father in speaking publicly about autism and contributed to his father’s book. Daughters Mariah, Lilly and Serena Volk will also be among the honorees.

Kenneth McCall III was recognized by the Maine Pharmacy Association with its Bowl of Hygeia Award for outstanding community service.
He is an employee of the University of New England. He is actively involved in the pharmacy profession and is known for putting patient care first. He is a leader in legislative affairs affecting pharmacy on the state and federal level.

GENERAL
Cunningham Prosthetic Care LLC has opened a new prosthetic and orthotic practice in Wells for patients in southern Maine and New Hampshire.
Services include artificial limbs, skeletal bracing and diabetic wound care.
Cunningham has been a board-certified prosthetist-orthotist since 2005.
