No more games, elect Somers, Turek

I used to believe that my vote didn’t make a difference and that local politics mattered even less. I could not have been more wrong! Every voice matters.

Distinguishing among candidates is a challenge. At candidates’ night they all spoke of the importance of strong schools, reasonable tax rates, affordable housing, better communication, tax relief for seniors, and greater community engagement. Sounds great right? I agree, but it also sounds like a lot of political speak, which is frustrating to me.

So now I look for something different. We need leaders who are not afraid to put the issue on the table in public and not play political games. We need leaders who are courageous enough to ask the tough questions and challenge the status quo to try new ways of doing things. I encourage you to watch the candidates’ night for yourself, see who you believe addresses the tough issues head on without going around them. It’s easy to say what you want to hear.

I keep hearing how divisive the dog issue was. The fact is it was the highest voter turnout for a special election in the town’s history and 73 percent of those voters supported overturning the council action. How is that divisive? What I see as divisive is three years of failed school budget votes, increased taxes, and disproportionate attention and council time given to Higgins Beach “issues.” Enough is enough.

For these reasons I hope you will consider joining me in voting for William Somers and Mike Turek for Scarborough Town Council. I believe they will best represent and balance the needs of the entire town. Not just schools, not just the beachfront, and not just their political party.

Vote for Turek

Please vote for Michael Turek for Scarborough Town Council.

Mike Turek is exactly what our town needs right now. He is not a polished politician. He is an honest, trustworthy, straight talking guy. Mike is one of us.

I am confident that Mike will represent all residents in Scarborough. It is critical that we maintain a balanced Town Council – and not one that will rubber-stamp the excessive spending requests we have seen over the past several years. ?

Mike has been an active and involved member of our community and is very knowledgeable about the many issues we face in Scarborough now. He has a vision of a Scarborough that can continue to thrive and grow, but in a sustainable and affordable way – a Scarborough with an excellent school system with a reasonable and affordable budget for all.?

Mike is thoughtful, open-minded and independent. Please give Mike your vote on Nov. 3. ?
