plans fall fest

On Saturday, Oct. 17, 4-7 p.m., the Pond Cove Parents Association in Cape Elizabeth will hold its annual Harvest Festival at the school.

This family-friendly event will include indoor and outdoor games, a haunted hallway, crafts, a meal featuring locally raised produce, a bake sale, a cake walk and more.

recycling fees

Disposal fees at the Cape Elizabeth Recycling Center will be waived for residents from Saturday, Oct. 10, through Monday, Oct. 26.

In addition, the center will be open from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. four Sundays this fall – Oct. 18, Oct. 25, Nov. 1 and Nov. 8 – for the disposal of recyclables, leaf, yard waste, wood waste, bulky waste and brush only.

The Cape Elizabeth Police Department is hosting a community forum on Thursday, Oct. 29, at the Town Center Fire Station, where Detective Mark Dorval and Community Liaison Officer David Galvan will discuss crime prevention and crime reporting, and offer tips about safeguarding one’s home and community. The forum is an opportunity for residents to raise concerns or ask questions related to public safety.

Map-making

Portland-based cartographer Molly Holmberg Brown will offer a map-making workshop for adults at the Thomas Memorial Library in Cape Elizabeth on Wednesday, Oct. 28.

Brown combines cartographic design and landscape art to create unique visual expressions of geography. She will share examples of her work and then lead participants through the process of making their own small maps of places that they love.

History tour

Jim Rowe from the Cape Elizabeth Historical Preservation Society will lead a free walk through Fort Williams Park focused on the history of the fort, the lighthouse and Goddard Mansion on Friday, Oct. 16, at 8:30 a.m. The walk is free and open to the public, but pre-registration is required at www.capecommunityservices.org or 799-2868.

Cancer walk set

The annual “Making Strides against Breast Cancer” walk, organized by the Portland chapter of the American Cancer Society, is scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 18 at Fort Williams Park. There is no fee for the 5-kilometer walk, which begins at 10 a.m. at the park’s parade grounds.
