Michaud devoted to serving City of Saco

Ron Michaud has devoted much of his life to serving our community. He has been a member of the Saco City Council for 14 years, served on the Planning Board, the Coastal Water Commission, the Saco Shoreline Commission, the Comprehensive Plan Committee and the Saco Bay Planning Committee and, more recently, as mayor.

In each of those positions, many of which are entirely volunteer and provided no financial compensation, he spent much of his personal time and resources becoming knowledgeable about the needs and interests of the citizens of our community. His thoughtful and thorough research into the many issues facing the city over these many years has helped guide Saco and enabled the city to avoid some of the missteps and confrontational politics sometimes faced by communities. Ron listens to his constituents and to individuals employed by the City of Saco in the numerous professional capacities required in a city that has, in the past 20 years, grown from a population of 15,523 to well over 18,000.

Ron dedicated time and effort to the well-being of the children of our community fundraising through Parent-Teacher Organization projects during the years when school funding issues precluded many educational activities for our schoolchildren. More recently, balancing his interests in providing quality education for Saco students with his broad awareness of the many financial demands and limitations of the city as a whole, he served on the School Board. Working to assure a safe, convenient and affordable residence for many older citizens of our community, Ron serves on the Board of Directors of Wardwell Retirement Home.

Saco can take justifiable pride in the dedication of a man who has served our community in so many ways. He gives of his time and efforts without thought of self-promotion, simply because he values the community and wants to see it continue to provide the quality of life we wish for Saco’s citizens.
