Wilfred Rosenblad was appointed first full-time chief of the Westbrook Fire department in June 1968. Rosenblad joined the Westbrook Fire Department on Aug. 4, 1944, as a substitute fireman on Engine 3 at Prides Corner. He became a regular fireman on March 5, 1945. He was promoted to clerk in 1946, lieutenant in 1950, captain in 1953, part-time chief in 1964 and then full-time chief. He retired on June 18, 1973, after serving 29 years in the department.

Rosenblad was born in the Stroudwater section of Portland, near what is now the Elk’s Club building on outer Congress Street in 1913. He attended Portland schools and graduated from Deering High School in 1938. He moved to Westbrook in 1939 after marrying the former Mae Elizabeth Westcott.

Rosenblad died Aug. 4, 1974, at the age of 61.
