On occasion, an energetic, thoughtful young person comes along who has the generosity of spirit and talent to advance the civic good. Marla Stelk, a candidate for Gorham Town Council, is just such a person. Marla has a vision for Gorham that values all sectors of the community, realizing that we need to balance our support for seniors and youth – and everyone in between – in order to make our town successful for all. Marla has a passionate and informed commitment to sustainability, which encompasses a balanced approach of economic health, environmental health and social/cultural health. Vibrant communities have all three.
Marla Stelk’s professional background makes her uniquely situated to offer an educated perspective: she has a master’s degree in community planning and development, as well as earlier training in environmental issues. She understands the need for a robust business community.
Our town is growing faster than any other town in Maine. We need a forward-thinking, rational voice on our Town Council, one that has the training and education, as well as the personal values, to help create a plan for sustainable growth.
