Saco is a fast growing city and an attractive city in which to live with excellent schools and super support services for all ages. We are seeing this to be true with over 300 residential building permits issued this year. In 2016, we will see our population exceed 20,000. This growth creates an increased need for services and has an impact on the expenses in each of our city departments and its dedicated city employees.

My experience, as an elected public official for 24 years, (12 years in Mass.) and (12 yrs. in Saco as city councilor-six years. and mayor-six years) has given me insight (regarding) what it takes for local government to succeed. One also learns to live with his/her decisions and see them come to fruition. A great experience. I wish that I were younger to do it again.

Based on the above, I am supporting Ron Michaud for mayor. Ron and his family have lived in Saco since 1982. He knows our city well and cares deeply about the city’s future. He has served as a volunteer on eight major committees and boards – from Planning Board to School Committee to City Council to mayor and everything in between. He is a good listener and knows the Saco City Charter. He has the ability to work with and enable city department heads. He knows how to conduct a meeting within “Roberts Rules.” I found him to be a proven performer when he served as deputy mayor with me 1998-2003. Ron has stepped forward to serve again as mayor during these challenging times for Saco.

I encourage Saco voters to study all the candidates, review their previous service on city committees and be sure to get out and vote on Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 3.

William “Bill” Johnson
Mayor Emeritus, Saco
