Freeport boys and girls cross country teams both triumphed at a regular season Western Maine Conference meet held in Minot on Oct. 2. The boys and girls teams both defeated contingents from Poland Regional High School, Fryeburg Academy and Old Orchard Beach.

In the boys’ race, Freeport runners claimed the top three spots. Junior Henry Jacques won first place with a time of 17:21 followed in second and third by senior Eric Brobst and freshman Alex Les. Also scoring points for the boys were Liam Gallagher in seventh place and Tom Doyle in eighth.

Overall, 21 boys ran for Freeport. They won the meet with a score of 21 points, followed by Fryeburg with 62 points, OOB with 77 points and Poland with 78 points.

In the girls’ race, senior Lily Johnston came in first place with a time of 20:59. Freeport senior Hannah Schnyder, junior Laura Pierce and freshman Lily Horne took third, fourth and fifth place, while senior Kayla Belanger contributed points with her ninth-place finish.

Fifteen girls competed from Freeport. The team won the meet with a score of 22 points, followed by Fryeburg Academy with 47 points and Poland Regional with 65 points.

The last meet of the regular season before championships will be held on Friday, Oct. 9, beginning at 4 p.m. at Royal River Park in Yarmouth. Freeport will compete against North Yarmouth Academy, Greely and Lake Region High School.
