Unity of Greater Portland on River Road continues the Season of Interfaith and Intercultural Celebration at 6:45 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 8, with a showing of “waking in Oak Creek.” The movie depicts a community rocked by hate that is awakened and transformed by the forgiveness shown by the Sikhs after six Sikh worshippers in Wisconsin were killed by a white supremacist. Donation of $5 at the door.

Roast beef supper

On Saturday, Oct. 3, a roast beef supper will be served at Windham Hill Church. The menu includes roast beef, mashed potato, gravy, green beans, desserts and beverages, and will be held from 5-6:30 p.m. The cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children under 12.

Electronic recycling

On Saturday, Oct. 17, Windham Hill Church will hold an Electronic Waste Recycling Event from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Windham Mall. Enter on Veterans’ Memorial Drive, off Route 302 next to Friendly’s. All towns are welcome. The following items can be recycled: television sets, all sizes; computers, monitors, hard drives, laptops, printers; cordless phones, cell phones, VCR, DVD, audio equipment, stereos, speakers. No household appliances (stoves, refrigerators, microwaves or vacuum cleaners). This event is sponsored by the church and EWaste Recycling Solutions. Questions? All monetary donations are used to cover the cost of organizing the event and to fund support of local missions for the community.

Bean supper

The Friends Church on Route 202 is hosting a baked bean supper on Saturday, Oct. 10,

from 4:30-6 p.m. Baked beans, brown bread, salads, pies, coffee and punch will be served. $7 for adults and $1 for children under 12.

Senior trip

From the Parks & Recreation Department, we’ve received this notice. “Windham will join our neighboring senior communities for lunch and a concert at the Stone Mountain Arts Center, Wednesday, Nov. 4. For just one day, it will be our own concert venue where we will enjoy the generous portions of a home cooked meal served with love while listening to Carol Noonan’s haunting renditions of Irish, English and American traditional music. Transportation will be on Windham Parks and Recreation bus and there are a few spots remaining, so don’t delay, as the trip may fill. Registration and payment is due by Wednesday, Oct. 21. Departure will be at 10:15 a.m. from Park & Ride behind Evergreen Credit Union. The performance is at 12:30ish and return by approximately 2:30 p.m. Fee is $39 per person. Lakes Region

Senior Center

The Lakes Region Senior Center is for the Windham/Gorham communities and is located at Little Falls Activity Center, 40 Acorn St., Gorham, Maine 04038. Members must be 50 years of age or older and pay an annual membership of $10. The center is open at 9 a.m. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. Legion meets

American Legion Field-Allen Post 148 will hold its October meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 7, at the Windham Veterans Center. A social will be held at 5 on Wednesday the 7th at the center. There will be a meeting at 6 p.m. October is Legion membership month and all members are encouraged to bring a fellow veteran to the social and meeting.

Cancer Support Group

Windham Cancer Support Group meets on the last Monday of the month at 6:30 p.m. at Windham Public Library, 217 Windham Center Road. On Oct. 28, the guest will be Chris Chapman who explains and demonstrates Laughter Yoga. The group is primarily a support group but this technique may benefit others. All are welcome.

Help for veterans

On Wednesdays, Oct. 14 and 28, Veterans Service Officer Matt Haley will be at the Windham Veterans Center to answer questions and assist veterans and their dependents. You do not need an appointment.
