Freeporter Jack Davenport notched two goals – one in each half – on Saturday afternoon, Sept. 19, lifting the Falcons past Gray-New Gloucester 2-1 and avenging a recent, frustrating loss to the Patriots.

Davenport scored with 27:30 still to play in the first half, then again less than a minute into the second half. Gray-New Gloucester’s Liam Stewart slashed his squad’s deficit with 6:12 remaining, but that boost to the Patriots’ momentum wasn’t enough.

It’s eighth-ranked Freeport’s first win of the year after three losses and a tie against some tough opponents: Besides their shutout at home against Gray-New Gloucester back on the 10th, the Falcons have fallen to No. 3 Yarmouth (5-0) and No. 4 Cape (3-2). Freeport tied 10th-ranked Wells (2-2-1). The team’s next bout is at Fryeburg Academy (No. 7 at 2-2-1) on Tuesday the 22nd

The No. 11 Patriots stumble to 2-2-1. Gray-New Gloucester’s other victory is over Lake Region (16th, at 0-5), and their other loss is to Falmouth (first in Class A, at 5-0). The Patriots tied ninth-place Greely (1-3-1). Gray-New Gloucester hosts North Yarmouth Academy (ninth in Class C, at 3-1) on Tuesday the 22nd.
